An Adventurous Day in Dublin

Dublin has it all for those with a love for activity and adventure. Here a few activities worth checking out while in the city;

Next, travel to Croke Park, the home of Ireland’s national sports hurling and Gaelic football. The Gaelic Athletic Association is the governing body of Irish sport and the Croke Park site in Drumcondra is where hundreds and thousands of Gaelic football and hurling fans gather annually for the sporting championships. There is a museum on the pitch grounds that will offer you an insight into the rich heritage and history of the sport. The ancient art of our stick and ball game called “Hurling” – the oldest, yet fastest field sport in the world.

Play and learn about the most popular sport in Ireland, Gaelic Football.  This is soccer, rugby, basketball and more all rolled into one.

Take an alley, 4 walls, 1 ball, 4 or 2 players, fast and furious pace and this is “Handball”, another of our Irish sports.  Fun, fast, yet accessible to all.

We’re sure you’ll be hungry after that so, time for lunch! Head to the Dockland’s where you will find plenty of restaurants and cafes to enjoy your food taking in some great views .You can take a taxi from Croke Park to the Docklands for approximately €10.

 

After lunch head for Wakedock. Wakedock is Ireland’s first cable wakeboard park, located in the heart of the Docklands area.If you are a fan of water sports then this is a must! Their system is ideal for beginners to learn wakeboarding. They have four obstacles, a small and a big kicker, a slider and a rooftop rail, which guarantee lots of fun for more advanced riders. Only one wake boarder uses the cable at any time. The speed can be adjusted to the rider’s ability. Alternatively, you would experience kayaking in Dublin Bay.  Kayaking.ie specialises in providing kayaking and canoeing courses, they also supply all equipment. If you’re looking for something with less adrenaline involved, take a trip to Ticknock Mountain, an area in Sandyford,Dublin at the north-eastern foothills of Dublin Mountains. This area is perfect for casual hikes or lively mountain biking. Don’t have a bike? The premise is only a short walk away from the Smithfield Luas stop so is ideal when coming from the city centre.
