Our Achievements
We have significantly reduced landfill waste through our “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” initiatives and have installed energy-efficient LED light bulbs throughout the hotel. Our team receives regular training on eco-friendly practices, with educational materials readily available. We have eliminated single-use plastics in our Food & Beverage Departments, opting instead for reusable bowls and pots, and all our straws, stirrers, takeaway cups, and lids are fully biodegradable.
To minimize paper use, we prioritize emailing and include an environmental note in all email signatures. Brooks Hotel has earned the Eco-Label from GreenHospitality.ie. We actively support local charities and participate in community initiatives such as tree planting, beach cleans, and awareness campaigns.
Our Goals
By December 2024, we aim to maintain the Eco-Label awarded by GreenHospitality.ie, reduce our landfill waste by an additional 5%, decrease our energy consumption by 3%, increase sourcing from local producers, and expand our community activities, including tree planting and beach clean-ups.
Our Restaurant
Francesca’s Restaurant, a member of Good Food Ireland, is dedicated to sustainable practices. We maintain an urban herb garden for fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs like lemon balm, mint, tomatoes, and coriander. Led by Head Chef Pat McLarnon, our team regularly forages for wild foods such as mushrooms, elderflower, cherry blossoms, and wild garlic. We prioritize local sourcing for our ingredients, and all jams, breads, cookies, and scones are homemade. Our breakfast buffet uses eco-friendly containers to reduce packaging waste, and we ensure our suppliers adhere to high environmental standards. We scrutinize each purchase order to avoid unnecessary waste.
Our Offices & Rooms
To reduce waste in our offices, we have implemented several measures, including using eco-friendly paper and pencils, encouraging minimal printing, segregating recyclable and general waste, and recycling used paper.
We enhance eco-friendliness in our rooms through 'Vingcard' systems that automatically switch off lights and power outlets when guests leave the room, a 'Longer Stay Linen Programme' to minimize linen changes, and by encouraging guests to reuse towels. We also use phosphate-free cleaning supplies, run washing machines and dryers only when full, and provide regular recycling training for all accommodation staff
Our Location
Situated in the heart of Dublin’s City Centre, our location is close to major transport links. Bus routes are just a 5-minute walk away, and two Dublin Bike stations are within a 2-minute walk. Tara Street Train Station is an 11-minute walk, and the nearest Luas line is a 5-minute walk. We promote the Dublin Bikes Scheme and local walking tours to guests, and encourage shopping at local boutiques on Drury Street and supporting individually owned shops.
Our Team & Our Charity Work
We educate our team on their role in reducing waste and promote environmental consciousness through adopting reduce, reuse, and recycle policies, encouraging public transport use, promoting water conservation and energy-saving practices, and reducing chemical use where possible.
We proudly support local charities in Dublin City. Each year, we partner with a charity, offering support through shared activities, publicity, and donations. Past partners include Pieta House, The Simon Community, The Alzheimer Society, and Barretstown.
Transport
For easy airport access, take the Aircoach, operating 24 hours a day to Trinity College, just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Return tickets can be purchased online or on the bus for €12, with single tickets available for €7.
